"Jaffar – Our Young Napoleon".
Oil on Wood Panel 60 x 80 cm, 2025, Netherlands
After painting Leila, her family asked if I would also paint her brother, Jaffar — a bright and thoughtful young boy, whose presence carries both warmth and quiet strength. They affectionately call him their Napoleon, because he often slips his hand into the front of his shirt, just as the great general did in his portraits. It’s a small, endearing gesture — perhaps a source of comfort — that has become distinctly his own.
Jaffar’s gentle heart and understanding nature shine through in every way. He is a devoted brother, standing steadfastly beside Leila, offering love and support while understanding the many hours his parents must spend with her in hospital. His patience and empathy are remarkable for someone so young.
In this painting, I hoped to capture not just the playful echo of history, but the quiet dignity, loyalty, and courage that define him. Jaffar may be young, but his strength of spirit is that of a true little general.
